Modern Selsdon celebrates its 100th birthday this year.
Starting point: Selsdon Residents’ Association is staging three guided walks next week
The builders, Costains, came to sleepy Selsdon in 1925 and began a massive house building programme that transformed a village that then consisted of a grand house with a farm and a dozen or so workers cottages.
The Selsdon Residents’ Association, celebrating its own 100th birthday in January 2026, is putting on a programme of free guided walks on Saturday July 19 to explore Selsdon (from the Anglo-Saxon “Selles Dun”, meaning “manor on a hill”) featuring its shops, houses and green spaces.
Walks commence at 10am, 11am and 2pm and take about an hour, covering around a mile of undulating pavements and local woodland. Numbers are limited to 20 per walk and tickets can be reserved on Eventbrite.
All the walks start at the Selsdon Triangle Clock, opposite the entrance to Sainsburys. All ages are welcome.
