No through road: the A236 Southbridge Road is to be closed to traffic from Nov 3-20
Southbridge Road, the busy A236 which links the Croydon Flyover to South End and Bramley Hill, is to be closed to traffic for almost three weeks in November for gas mains works.
Aberdeen Road, which runs from St Peter’s Road in South Croydon to the high street on South End, will also be closed while gas piping contractors replace old metal gas mains with new plastic pipes.
The closures are staggered, with the works on Aberdeen Road beginning on October 27 and lasting until November 2.
Southbridge Road will be closed from November 3 until November 20. That closure will begin the day after the annual RAC London to Brighton veteran car run rattles down the road on November 2.
According to SGN, roads and pavements will be dug up, and Aberdeen Road and Southbridge Road “will be closed to through traffic… a signposted diversion will be in place for vehicles, approved by the local authority”.
The Aberdeen Road closure is liable to impact several bus routes: 119, 312, 466, 405, 60 and 166. Bus passengers should check with TfL’s travel planner web page before they travel.
