Croydon Scouts are among 112 youngsters who have received their Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards.
Awarding conduct: 12-year-old Harry received a £300 grant for his Purley Scout troop
The presentations celebrated winners aged from 11 to 25 for their contributions to their unit, where winners received medallions and framed certificates from the Foundation, along with a £300 grant for them to spend to benefit their Scout troop.
Eight adults were also awarded Leader Awards for demonstrating outstanding ability to motivate young people.
The Jack Petchey Foundation has invested more than £2.3million in Croydon youth projects since funding started in 1999.
Harry, aged 12, attends 25th Purley Scouts. He won the Jack Petchey Achievement Award for his dedication and enthusiasm.
After signing up for the Kandersteg 2024, an Alpine summer camp staged in Switzerland, he began fundraising to pay for his camp fee and paid for the full amount on his own.
“It was a great honour to be nominated for the award and I am very pleased to have been recognised for the dedication I have given to Scouting,” Harry said, adding that the £300 grant will be spent on a new adventurous activity for the Winter Camp.
Since Sir Jack Petchey set up the Foundation 26 years ago to inspire, motive and celebrate the achievements of young people, a total of £180million has been invested in its programmes across London and Essex, estimated to have benefited 1.3million young people directly.
More than 250,000 Jack Petchey Achievement Awards have been awarded so far.
