Nightwatch marks 50th anniversary with film about a stray cat

Nightwatch, one of the borough’s biggest charities, whose volunteers work throughout the year to help Croydon’s homeless, continues its round of 50th anniversary events on Thursday November 12 with a showing of a heartfelt film about homelessness at the David Lean Cinema.

The screening of A Streetcat Named Bob will be followed with a special Q&A session with Jad Adams, the long-time Nightwatch chair.

A Streetcat Named Bob is the true story of busker James Bowen, who was a recovering drug addict living in sheltered accommodation when he encountered an injured cat and immediately formed a bond.

His story became a million-selling book and this award-winning film.

Busy charity work: Nightwatch chair Jad Adams

Tickets for the screening are £15, with all proceeds going to Nightwatch Croydon.

Jad Adams has volunteered with Nightwatch since 1979 and has been chair since 1992.

In tht time, Adams has helped the charity through the credit crunch, the 2011 riots, covid and the cost of living crisis.

Nightwatch has 150 volunteers with different teams going out every night of the year to help homeless and otherwise vulnerable people in Croydon.
