The campaign to stop the building of a waste incinerator on Metropolitan Open Land at Beddington Lane seems to be entering a critical phase, following the approval of the plans for the Viridor  commercial scheme by Sutton Council’s planning officers.

That decision goes before Sutton’s planning committee next Wednesday. If approved, campaigners’ last hope is Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Stop the South London Incinerator Campaign are calling on people to come along and protest against the plans.

“The Stop The Incinerator Campaign want as many people as possible to come along and protest, to show the level of public opposition to the plans to burn our waste, when there are better and safer alternatives that should be used instead,” they said.

They want people to gather from 7pm next Wednesday, April 24, outside the front entrance of Sutton Civic Centre, St Nicholas Way, SM1 1EA.
