Entries open for Croydon Half-marathon: Mar 30

Online entries are now being accepted for the 2014 Croydon Half-marathon, sponsored by Streets Ahead and organised by Croydon Striders, to be staged on Sunday, March 30.

It will be the fourth staging of the 13.1-mile race, with the event starting and finishing at Striders’ Sandilands clubhouse. This year, it is raising money for homelessness charity Croydon Nightwatch.

The race is chip-timed and is staged on a UK Athletics-certified two-lap road course which skirts around Lloyd Park, Addington Hills, Shirley and Park Hill and, as you may manage to work out, offers a fair few climbs. It is not the sort of event to go to if you are seeking a “swift half”.

The fastest time in the race was set in 2012, at 1hr 11min 28sec, while the women’s course record was set last year, with 1:24:42 – with just three runners from the 534 finishers completing the course inside 1hr 16min in 2013, experienced racers will realise that it is a demanding route.

This year, there will be goody bags and medals for all finishers and prizes for individual men and women, individual male and female veterans as well as team prizes.
