Council is splashing the cash for another swimming summer

Croydon’s Labour council has splashed the cash again, to give the borough’s under-16-year-olds free swimming sessions over the summer holidays.

The free offer runs from Monday July 26 to Tuesday September 4.

“This is the fourth summer in a row we’ve invested in free swimming,” Timothy Godfrey, the council cabinet member responsible for sport and leisure, said. “I’m really proud that we are able to do this again in such difficult times.”

Membership cards for the free swims can be picked up from the centres at South Norwood, New Addington, Waddon, Thornton Heath and Purley. Anyone aged under 16 who is resident in the borough or attends school here is eligible.

There will also be teaching sessions to get swimming novices started and confident. Centres will also offer a range of fun and fitness activities, including inflatable sessions, junior gyms, trampolining, water polo, football and basketball.

Parents or guardians need to complete a form available from their local centre and pay a £2 one-off admin fee, after which members can swim for free as many times as they like.
