Hot topic time at the Croydon Assembly this month, when it meets at Ruskin House on Thursday, June 14, and the discussion is “Why we need a Jewish Voice for Labour”.
A recent protest in central London
The speaker will be Pamela Blakelock, who grew up in a Jewish household in south-east London, and who has been active in the trade union movement.
“When Jeremy Corbyn was elected as leader of the Labour Party, I decided that this provided the possibility for socialist ideas to be raised, in contrast to the Blair years when the Labour government shared responsibility for the destruction of viable Middle East states,” Blakelock said.
“The state of Israel has been used as the bastion of both United States and British interests. I joined the Jewish Voice for Labour to be able to work against the false propaganda of the Israeli government and promote international rights, including those of the Palestinians.”
The Croydon Assembly meeting on June 14 is being held at Ruskin House (23 Coombe Road, CR0 1BD) from 7.30pm.
