Broken rail forces closure of tram network in town centre

A broken rail in the Croydon town centre section of the tram network has forced Transport for London to cancel all services between Reeves Corner and East Croydon today.

Off-track: the town centre section of the tram network, through Centrale, West Croydon and Wellesley Road, is closed until tomorrow

TfL says it hopes that the urgent repair works being conducted today will fix the issue in time for a full service to resume tomorrow, Friday, August 2.

For today, a normal service is operating between Wimbledon to Reeves Corner and from East Croydon to Beckenham Junction, Elmers End and New Addington, serving all tram stops on these routes.

“While Wellesley Road is expected to remain open for buses and other traffic during the works, lane closures may mean local bus services are subject to disruption at times,” TfL said this morning.

“Please allow more time to complete your journey and check before you travel.

“We are very sorry for the disruption this will cause.”

TfL’s Go app can help you plan your journey and provides real time information.
