Old Coulsdon has a new, young, rector.
Landmark appointment: St John’s in Old Coulsdon dates originally from the 1200s
Rev Jono Simpson and his wife, Lucy, together with their four young children, have moved into the new Rectory in Old Coulsdon, following his appointment to St John’s Church.
Stone-built St John’s is one of Croydon’s oldest churches, originally built in the 13th Century, and is, according to the CofE, “pleasantly situated at the east corner of the village green in Old Coulsdon”.
The west tower, a notable Coulsdon landmark, was built in the 1400s.
Rev Simpson moves to Old Coulsdon from Holy Trinity Brompton in South Kensington, and has years of ministry experience in Britain and abroad.
“Their arrival marks an exciting new chapter for our parish,” according to a church member.
“They bring fresh perspectives and ideas to our community, while honouring the traditions and values we cherish.”

And the arrival of the Simpsons in Old Coulsdon sees the launch of Alpha, a weekly toddler group and, from the New Year, a 11.15am Sunday service (with children’s groups each week).
Roxanne Moore, the parish council secretary, said, “On behalf of everyone here, we extend our warmest welcome to the Simpson family. May St John’s continue to flourish under Jono’s leadership. We look forward to all that lies ahead!”
