Tube strike next week could impact tram and bus services

Transport for London has issued a warning today that next week’s industrial action on the Underground could also have a serious impact on the capital’s buses and Croydon’s tram networks.

Five-day strike: expect considerable disruption and crowding on buses and trams next week

Members of the RMT union – the Rail Maritime and Transport union – are staging the five-day walkout, from Sunday September 7 to Thursday September 11 in a rolling action over pay and conditions.

Different parts of RMT membership will walk out on different days, but it will mean little or no service on all of the Tube.

There is also a separate dispute on the Docklands Light Railway on Tuesday and Thursday, which will mean no DLR on those days.

Croydon, Sutton and Bromley, of course, have no Tube stations, but with the tram connecting to the District line at Wimbledon and running close to the Northern line at Morden, while bus services interconnect with the Victoria line at Brixton, commuters and passengers will need to check on all journeys over the next week.

In a statement issued to public transport passengers this morning, TfL said: “Other services, including the Elizabeth line, London Overground, London buses and trams will be operating but are likely to be extremely busy.

“These services may be unable to stop at all stations or run to their normal destinations due to Tube station closures.

“Some bus routes in west London may be disrupted on Thursday 11 and Friday September 12 due to strike action.”

TfL says that if the strikes go ahead, the impact is likely to be as follows:

And TfL said: “If you need to travel, plan ahead, allow more time for your journey and check before you travel.”

For more information, TfL is running a strikes webpage.
