Thank you for the music: now you can sing Abba’s songs

Super troupers: the Croydon Bach Choir is giving you the chance to sing some of the most famous pop songs of all time

Are you ready to Take A Chance on a unique musical experience?

You can join the renowned Croydon Bach Choir for a day of singing Abba’s greatest hits next month. This special event will take place on Saturday, October 4 from 11am to 5pm at St Matthew’s Church, Chichester Road, Croydon CR0 5NQ, and will be led by guest music director Tom Chapman and accompanist Duncan White.

The Croydon Bach Choir prides itself on sharing the beauty of classical choral music with the community. Their Abba singing day will be a fun departure, designed to extend their love of singing to people who wouldn’t normally attend their classical concerts or singing days.

“We’ve held many classical choral music singing days over the years, but we’re excited to host our first pop music singing day, bringing the joy of music to a wider audience,” said Linda Volti, the chairman of the Croydon Bach Choir. “Our goal is to share our passion for singing and create a fun, accessible experience for everyone, irrespective of singing experience or ability to read music.”

Moira O’Donnell, one of the event organisers, said, “We love running singing days because they are always such a joyful and uplifting experience for all involved and everybody goes home on a real high.”

During the Abba singing day, participants will learn a selection of the group’s hits, from Dancing Queen, to Super Trouper, through to, appropriately, Thank You For The Music, with Chapman leading the group in fun and engaging ways which cater for both experienced singers as well as to those new to singing.

There will be breaks for tea and coffee, cakes and biscuits, provided by Croydon Bach Choir. Participants are advised to bring a packed lunch.

Tickets for the Abba singing day are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Croydon Bach Choir’s next concert will be on December 6 – a celebration of St Nicholas Day. Tickets are on sale via the choir’s website, where there are also details of their Christmas Concert with the brass ensemble of the London Mozart Players in Upper Norwood on December 13.

In preparation for these concerts, the choir will resume rehearsals for its autumn term next Wednesday, September 24, at 7.30pm. They warmly welcome new members.
