Part of the ranger’s talk will detail his work supervising a rare colony of dormice in the open space.
The Friends of Farthing Downs was set up in 2005 to work with the City of London Corporation after a local campaign for the purchase of the Woodplace Fields to preserve them as a green space next to the downs.
The Friends also have a guided walk, from the car park on March 9.
Neolithic boundaries and track ways can be well seen on the downs at this time of year. The downs also have a Saxon burial ground.
The Friends are putting their views forward about preserving this precious countryside and the broad views from the downs to the developers working on the Cane Hill site at Coulsdon.
They are also aiming to start offering teas on the last Sunday of the month from May to October, returning to the tradition of the café that used to be on the downs in the 1960s.
