Special lunch club launched for seniors on Selsdon Road

La Spezia: one of Croydon’s best local businesses

The latest initiative from members of the South Croydon Community Association is a senior citizens’ luncheon club every Tuesday at La Spezia, the Selsdon Road deli run by Giorgio Raffaelli.

The special menu offers soup and bread for £1; sandwich and a drink for £2; pasta and a hot drink for £2.50; or salad and bread for £2.

“We’re keen to help build a sense of community among residents and traders in South End, and this is just the sort of thing which helps senior citizens save a bit of money but, just as important, has a strong social element, to help bring people together,” said a SCCA rep.

La Spezia, on the corner of St Peters Road, also sells a wide range of excellent continental cheeses, hams and sausages.

The produce is so good there that when thieves broke in, they stole a tub of Giorgio’s high-class olives rather than nicked the proceeds from the till.

And they do outstanding quality, good-value lunches for those who have yet to collect their Freedom Pass, too.
