Batman movie-makers start work on demolishing Croydon

Movie equipment moved in at Delta Point, West Croydon, on Saturday

Croydon as Gotham City? The producers of the latest Batman movie might have been just a tad obvious when selecting as a shooting location a town that the local MP said has a “reputation for rather unwelcoming 1960s architecture and for crime and anti-social behaviour”.

But after several weeks of speculation that Croydon was to be used for shots of Gotham, movie-makers’ arc lights were spotted at Delta House, the former BT office block in West Croydon, last night.

There’s not been any sightings as yet of The Penguin or The Joker, nor has Hollywood star Christian Bale been seen on a local Tram.

Bale is due to reprise his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Rises, which is due for release next year.

But the film-makers do have plans for Croydon, demolishing Delta Point in a key scene in the movie. All in CGI though.

There are many who might suggest they would be doing us all a favour if they were to do the demolition work on that tower block, and a few others, and all for real.
