Croydon Council has started leafleting households and distributing garden waste recycling sacks. If you have not already done so, you should probably expect to receive your package through you letter box any day now: fortnightly garden waste collections are due to begin in the week commencing April 23.
Last year, the garden waste collections stopped in early October – just before autumn leaves began falling into Croydon gardens. Good planning, Croydon!
When this was pointed out to them, the council said they would look to extend the collection period. So for 2012 collections have been extended through to late November. So that’s a tick in the “plus” box for our council.
But the absence of joined up thinking when it comes to Croydon Council’s website content remains an irritation for residents. This message was received from Inside Croydon‘s loyal reader this morning:
“The council’s website proudly trumpets that: ‘Green waste collections will begin on 23 April’. Click on that and I find that ‘You can check your collection dates on the About your area site’. So I click again and discover that ‘Your Garden waste collected every other Monday from April to October Next collection: April 2012’
“So that’s cleared that up then.”
