Chris Callaway has been appointed as Old Mid-Whitgiftians’ new director of rugby.
Callaway takes over from Peter Knott, who has retired after coaching the first XV for the past two years, “a wonderful man to work with and an asset to the club”, according to a tribute from MidWives’ chairman of playing, Graham Crouch.
Callaway played for Sevenoaks and Richmond, and was recently head coach of Richmond’s development squad.
Dan Crouch will be first team coach and Jacob Bacon has been appointed under-21s head coach.
Pre-season training begins at Lime Meadow Avenue on July 9, and friendly fixtures have already been arranged against Warlingham and Horsham. More information is available on the club’s website.
Warlingham are gathering their Academy players together for summer training on Tuesday July 2 at 7.30pm.
“Our youth section is one of the strongest in the area and we have the RFU Seal of Approval demonstrating we run a tight, compliant ship,” said chairman Peter Wrightson.
“Our aim this year is to continue the excellent work done by the youth coaches and prepare the players for the rigours of senior rugby. The Surrey under-21 competition is a great platform to bridge the gap between youth and senior rugby.”
New players, of whatever age from six upwards, looking to start the game at mini rugby level, or looking for a social game with Warlingham’s notorious fourth XV, or who fancy playing at the highest level available in the area are always welcome at Hamsey Green. Contact details are available on the club website.
