Unite union member Katherine McGuirk is a strong candidate with two decades of experience as a senior local councillor in Barnet, working as a researcher for Labour MPs in parliament and a “real life” extended career in retail at John Lewis.
However, with a strong preference among the Croydon Central Labour party members to choose a locally based candidate, and with no significant campaigning effort by “Red Kaff” McGuirk, it seems likely that this candidate, who came close to winning nomination for a parliamentary seat in Watford, will not be pursuing her parliamentary career from Croydon.
