The Croydon Youth Theatre Organisation is looking for new members – whether they are actors or stage crew – to work through the summer on their latest production, due to be performed at next month’s Ambition Arts Festival.
Now based at the Shoestring Theatre on Oakley Road, South Norwood, CYTO was founded in 1965. It is a professionally led youth group which aims to encourage and perform terrific theatre and for its participants to learn life skills.
The 2015 summer term production is East End Tales by Fin Kennedy, and shows will be at St Michael’s Church, West Croydon, on July 23, 24, 25.
The director is Nick Rawling, who has worked in most areas of the industry, from devising a play about football violence with Carol Ann Duffy to extensive touring around the world with Empty Space Theatre Company and The British Council. He has also directed performances of Dracula in Bulgaria, which is about as close as you can get to performing it in Transylvannia itself without actually being in Romania.
Rehearsals for East End Tales are each Wednesday evening and Sunday afternoon, while CYTO continues to run a series of workshops – for technical theatre skills as well as acting – on Monday and Friday evenings.
