Councillor Rendle writes: “I have decided to open this up to all members of staff and anyone who lives and works in Croydon who would like to attend.
“Also speaking will be a member of staff from Croydon Care Solution’s fantastic Autism Project and some adults with autism who will explain what it’s like to live with ASD day in day out.”

Ironic that my close friend who works within the very same building and is an outspoken ASD adult, known to Mr Rendle, had no invitation to be involved in this nor even knew about it until the late stages – which has caused great upset to her and left her feeling hugely invalidated and reluctant to communicate further on the subject. Understanding of ASD might have prevented this with clear communication and explanation in advance (or clear feedback about why her experiences and input were not considered to have any value at any step along the way) – but this really has caused a lot of unnecessary anxiety and distress. There is understanding ASD and there is understanding ASD.
