It was Brenda Kirby Weekend in Croydon, with ceremonies for the former councillor at Heathfield House and fund-raising in New Addington for the Cancer Care Centre that carries her name.
Brenda Kirby died last year, her life celebrated with a civic service at a packed Croydon Minster.
On Saturday, which would have been Brenda’s 70th birthday, her ashes were scattered under the cherry tree she had planted herself in the gardens at Heathfield House, where she had supported the establishment of the Croydon Ecology Centre.

The many charity walkers raising funds for the Brenda Kirby Cancer Care Centre included Steve O’Connell (centre of shot, in shorts)
Yesterday, many of those who attended were joined by local residents and friends for a sponsored walk in New Addington, many sporting striking yellow T-shirts.
Among the charity walker were the likes of Croydon’s London Assembly Member, Steve O’Connell.
