If south London did parks…
Beddington Park, just down the road in Sutton, features in the latest Carlsberg lager TV and cinema advertisement, released for the start of the football season.
“If Carlsberg did kickabouts” features cameo appearances from former Manchester United and Denmark goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and Sky Sport’s Soccer Saturday host, Jeff Stelling, who plays a role in which he is clearly impressed by the standard of football being played in the park, far better than anything he might see at Hartlepool.
Beddington Park became “Carlsberg Park” for the advert filming last month, and while it features extensive use of the latest digital techniques during the game – such as the physio’s magic sponge with miraculous weight-loss facility – the popular Sutton park’s open spaces and the River Wandle also feature prominently.
Of course, the filming might have demanded that all the actors should wear air pollution masks had it been shot in a year’s time: Beddington Park is less than a mile away from the cluster of a dirty dozen waste incinerators which the local council, aided and abetted to some extent by Croydon Council, has given permission to be developed.
