There’s a fantastic day planned for Monday, August 31, with the annual Environmental Fair from 10.30am till 8pm in Carshalton Park, Ruskin Road.
The fair features three solar-powered stages, 150 stalls showcasing local crafts, sustainability products, local groups offering handy information and contacts, political groups, farmers’ market producers and healthy lifestyles tips, plus all kinds of activities for children to do and lots space to relax and enjoy, plus 15 caterers serving hot and cold food, and a bar with real ales.
For the first time, there is a pop-up cinema courtesy of The Brook Wallington.
The children’s activities range from face painting and cartoon portraits to a cycle obstacle course, football shot competition, craft activities, making cress heads and shark hats and more. Under-12s get free entrance to the fair!
Fantastic Entertainment
The pop-up cinema will host independent short films, documentaries, historic footage and music videos made by local film makers and students.
Three stages with a range of entertainment, from rock and pop on the Main Stage in the park’s natural open air amphitheatre, to folk and jazz in the Music Cafe where you can relax with a cup tea and slice of homemade cake, to all sorts of wonderful and varied entertainment in the Performing Arts Marquee.
Hot Food & Farmers!
The fair boasts a great range of tasty food from Thai noodles to Indian bhajis, pancakes, wood fired pizza, veggie burgers, curry, doughnuts, West Indian, Moroccan food, paella and aloo roti and of course – ice cream. Options for vegans and gluten-free eating. Farmers’ Market stalls will be selling a delicious range of fresh local produce from strawberry tarts to pickles and sauces.
Refreshing
As well as the caterers there is a café and a bar. The bar features a range of real ales to sample from microbreweries, as well as organic larger and other drinks. The Wallington and Carshalton WI serve tea, coffee, fruit drinks and delicious homemade cake in the Music Cafe. There will be a small cocktail bar in the pop up cinema.
150-plus stalls and activities
You can browse among 150 stalls including fair trade clothing, locally made craft and jewellery, lots of community organisations showcasing local initiatives, eco products, Dr Bike, food growing advice, nature conservation projects, interesting plant stalls for gardeners and a healing area with massage and other treatments.

Entry is free for under-12s, £3 for concessions, OAPs under-16-year-olds, and £5 for adults. All proceeds go toward the cost of the event with any excess supporting EcoLocal charity projects.
