AUDIO: ‘We deserved a point against Spurs’ says Pardew

Alan Pardew, the Crystal Palace manager, felt his side’s performance at White Hart Lane yesterday deserved at least a draw.

It was Palace’s second successive defeat – albeit the previous loss was at oil-rich table-toppers Manchester City – but both losses came as the result of a goalkeeping error, this time Tottenham were 1-0 winners after Heung-Min Son’s shot went through the legs of Alex McCarthy.

“The goalie should do better for us,” Pardew said.

The fans’ response to the Palace performance was generally one of disappointment, and frustration at the side’s lack of a goal-getting striker.

Pardew said, “That’s two defeats. I don’t care about opposition – Manchester City and Tottenham – it’s two defeats. We’ve got to put that right.

“We’ve won three, lost three of our first six. You look at the fixtures, I don’t think that’s a bad return. In saying that, it could have been so much better.”

The manager outlined his ambitions for the season: “I’m an experienced manager, I know a good side when I see one – this is a good side. We need to tighten up in certain little areas, be stronger in the mind and we can achieve a great season. A great season for us is top 10, maybe higher than that, and a cup competition. Those should be our goals.”
