PizzaExpress serves up 25 jobs in Coulsdon restaurant

PizzaExpress opened a new restaurant in Coulsdon at the weekend, creating 25 jobs, including six pizzaiolos – that’s pizza-makers to you and me – and 14 waiters and waitresses.

The restaurant, at Trinity Square on Brighton Road in the centre of Coulsdon, can seat nearly 150 customers, and is expected to get through 10-stone of pizza dough in its first month of operation, when the team prepares to serve up 6,300 pizzas and 4,210 portions of PizzaExpress’ Dough Balls.

Each PizzaExpress restaurant is individually designed – often using well-known places, people or historical events from the area as the basis. The new restaurant’s artwork pays tribute to Coulsdon’s history of chalk and flint mining. Some of the wall panelling features artwork made from using chalks.

Robert Patient, the manager, said, “We will have a beautiful new restaurant and can’t wait to show it off to our customers. We have a friendly and enthusiastic team who are looking forward to welcoming everyone over a delicious pizza.”

There will be a new restaurant from next week, which includes a range of “65” pizzas, inspired by some of the most popular pizzas served since 1965, the year that Peter Boizot opened the first PizzaExpress restaurant in Wardour Street. The chain now has more than 400 outlets, including recently opened branches in Purley as well as in South Croydon.

PizzaExpress Coulsdon is at Trinity Square, 127 Brighton Road, Coulsdon, CR5 2NJ. Tel: 0208 660 1199. Opening times: Mon – Thu, 11.30am–10.30pm; Fri, Sat and Sun 12.00pm–10.30pm
