Warlingham rugby club’s new women’s section is going from strength to strength, with a full team squad enjoying a training session at Harlequins’ Stoop ground last weekend – in diabolical weekend weather – before taking seats in the stadium to watch England take on Ireland.
“Despite the extreme weather misery, it was a very good session, as can be seen by the smiling faces in the picture above,” according to club official Ella Leonard.
The constant rain played a role in the 10-3 England win. “It was raining so hard that it sometimes looked as if the ball had a special non-stick surface,” Leonard said.
“But we were sitting in a block of 40 girls and parents and there was a fantastic atmosphere.”
This Friday evening, Warlingham’s under-15s boys are playing host in a tour game under floodlights against the visiting Madrid Arquitectura Rugby Club, from Spain. Kick-off is at 7pm, and entry is free – spectators are welcome, and the club bar will be open.
