The next Croydon Photography Forum on May 10 will be taking a look at art therapy, when the guest speaker is the award-winning Daniel Regan.
Creative and technically gifted, Regan is a photographer and arts facilitator whose practice focuses on themes of mental health, well-being and recovery.
While studying for photography degrees at Brighton University and London College of Communications, Regan examined both his own role as a mental health service user and the benefits of the arts for those affected by emotional difficulties.
Regan’s personable approach to photography has enabled him to work successfully with various marginalised groups, including as burns survivors, alopecia sufferers and an array of mental health service users from all backgrounds and ages.
He has also worked with various charities to create powerful imagery representing their beneficiaries. He regularly runs arts workshops at Kentish Town Health Centre, including his annual Emotions in Photography project, which invites participants to learn photography skills and create their own visual narratives by exploring complex personal issues through image making and bookbinding.

Lee Townsend, the founder and organiser of the Croydon Photography Forum, said, “The challenge with writing about Daniel is that due to his open mind towards art and photography it is difficult to describe his work because his subjects, themes, textures and the variety of things in general that he photographs makes it impossible to pigeonhole him.
“It’s fair to say that if you want to be inspired, hear about photography from a different angle and learn about it as part of the healing process then Daniel’s Regan’s talk is one that you certainly not want to miss.”
Townsend and the Forum has also announced that this month, one lucky person will win a raffle prize which consists of a signed print from Daniel Regan along with a photobook and a £40 voucher towards having your own photobook printed by Blurb Books, who kindly donated both items.
As usual there is no cost to attend the Croydon Photography Forum, but the organisers welcome contributions which help to offset the costs associated running the events each month.
Daniel Regan will be talking at the Croydon Photography Forum on May 10, from 6.45pm, the meeting being held at CVA Resource Centre, 82 London Road, Croydon, CR0 2TB.
