Kevin Day, the comedian, scriptwriter and Palace fan, will be the celebrity starter of this year’s Positive Steps event on Sunday June 26 around Lloyd Park for Mind in Croydon.

Kevin Day: helping to get things started at Positive Steps
A sponsored walk of anything from five kilometres – a tad over three miles – to nearly 10 miles, consisting of three loops around the park. Walkers are invited to take part in as much of the walk as they would like. The aim of the walk is to challenge the stigma around mental health problems and raise awareness of Mind in Croydon, while having fun and getting fit.
After a warm-up led by Mango Tree Fit, the walkers will set off at a pace of their own choosing. Coming the day before the Wimbledon tennis championships begin and just days after the EU referendum in the middle another glorious summer of European football, there should be plenty to talk to your fellow walkers about.
The organisers are also seeking volunteers to help out with marshalling. “The helpful kind where you shepherd people, not the John Wayne kind where you shoot them,” says event co-ordinator Pete Rogers. “So if anyone is able to come along and help out even for an hour or two or have family and friends willing to help out it would be much appreciated as the marshals really do make the walk enjoyable and safe for everyone.”
