Jennifer McDermott, the CEO of the Cassandra Learning Centre, will be giving a talk for the Croydon Soroptimists in Selsdon on November 24, speaking about her organisation and work that its volunteers do locally.
In the talk, entitled “If it hurts, it isn’t love”, McDermott wil outline how the intention of the Cassandra Learning Centre is to raise awareness and educate young people about domestic violence in young adult relationships – generally regarded as those aged between 13 and 25.
McDermott will provide details of local agencies and services, and provide a forum where young adults feel safe to talk about violence and aggression in their relationships.
The meeting hall, at the Selsdon Centre for the Retired (beside Sainsbury’s), will be open from 7pm, with apologies and urgent notices at 7.30pm followed by light food.
The talk will begin around 8pm and last approximately half an hour, followed by questions from the floor. Finish approximately 9pm.
This is a free event, hosted by Soroptimist International Croydon and District.
Refreshments will be available – please advise if attending (email blath8@googlemail.com or phone 020 8681 3493) and number of guests for catering purposes.
Donations to cover room hire would be appreciated.
