A new art gallery in South Norwood will now open from December 7.

This is what the Elizabeth James Gallery should look like when ready to open next month
The Elizabeth James Gallery on Portland Road had to delay its opening by a month while building work goes on to bring the unused shop back in to use, part of a scheme funded by Croydon Council (as we reported here).
The new gallery’s launch event will take place from 7pm to 9pm on Wednesday, December 7.
The eponymous gallery owner, who was brought up in a flat just across the road from her new venture, aims to bring an eclectic mix of art, design, gifts, homeware and workshops to her old neighbourhood.

And this is how the shopfront looked before work began on the site
The gallery will host exhibitions showcasing the best of Croydon’s young talent alongside James.
The gallery will also be inviting local schools and colleges to attend for educational visits and workshops. Also among the ambitious plans is a series of Live Art Saturday’s – artists will come and create art in the gallery window so the community can see their talent and working process.
