The opening of the latest Antic pub, the Walker Briggs on Westow Hill at Crystal Palace, has been postponed by a week.
The management issued a notice yesterday stating, “Unfortunately we’ll be unable to open on the advertised date of Thursday August 3.
“Despite the efforts and hard work of our building team, we know that if we open on the above date it won’t be perfect – and we want it to be. We apologise to all of you who had made plans to join us.
“We hope you understand that we’d only do this because it’s extremely important to us to get it right.”
The new opening night will now be August 11, from 6pm.
The owners, Antic London, are a rapidly expanding pubco with often eccentrically named pubs, already to be found in South Norwood, there’s a site to be developed near Norbury railway station, and the Westow House, just up the road from this latest venture.
To differentiate the two Crystal Palace pubs, Walker Briggs is being billed as a “cafe bar”, which will be open during the day to appeal to families while offering DJ-ed music in the evenings.
On the opening night at Walker Briggs, there’s to be a champagne raffle for all those arriving before 8pm.
