Croydon’s Council Tax-payers will get the chance to see how loss-making Brick by Brick has managed to piss away at least £1million on new office furniture and a real estate sales showroom this weekend.
The world’s first airport control tower, at Croydon Airport, is open this weekend
The Brick by Brick shop and offices on George Street are among the venues included in this weekend’s Open House London event, in which some of the capitals less-accessible buildings throw open their doors to the public to have a nose around.
Perhaps disappointingly, Croydon has only about a dozen buildings taking part in the city-wide scheme and one of those, the recently re-opened Fairfield Halls, is already fully booked for its guided tours.
But there are a few other cultural and historic gems, such as the world’s first air traffic control tower at Croydon Airport, which is open on both Saturday and Sunday, and the borough’s oldest church, St Mary’s at Addington.
The world’s most over-priced office building – Fisher’s Folly, also sometimes known as the Bernard Weatherill House council offices on Mint Walk – is open on Saturday, as is the Town Hall and Clocktower.

Shirley Windmill is also participating over the weekend, along with the Whitgift Almshouses in North End.
In all, there’s more than 800 buildings involved in Open House London this weekend, and it is all free. Many are open on a first-come first-served basis, some require booking.
