LMP’s Changing Seasons concert put a real spring in my step

Three lucky Inside Croydon subscribers each won a pair of tickets to enjoy the London Mozart Players’ Vivaldi-inspired Changing Seasons concert at the Fairfield Halls on Saturday. One of them, PAUL AINSCOUGH, shares his thoughts on the evening

I was lucky enough to win a pair of tickets for Changing Seasons – “a multi-genre spectacular… that reimagines Vivaldi’s Four Seasons for today’s changing world”.

It was close enough to my birthday to make the visit that little bit more special, so I thought, why not make it a party? A quick email and a couple of calls to the box office ensured that the additional seats we bought were all seated together.

I was intrigued to see how the London Mozart Players and performers would reinterpret Vivaldi’s Four Seasons 302 years after it was conceived, and they did not disappoint.

The Four Seasons were introduced via pre-recorded conversations describing the inspiration for each piece. Each season was preceded by poetry by Jeremiah Brown and followed by a musical and visual showcase of local talent. All of which was thought-provoking and entertaining.

I asked several audience members what their favourite piece of the four works that had been performed by the local arts groups: Subrang Arts, Queer Croydon x Stanley Arts, Club Soda and Croydon Music and Arts. Everyone paused for a moment before offering a different performer and then mentioning another.

It was that sort of evening: the sum of the parts producing a perfectly balanced spectacular.

Changing Seasons reflected the Croydon we all need to be proud of.
