No tram service to New Addington for two weeks, from Apr 5

There will be no tram service to New Addington for two weeks, starting from Saturday April 5, as Transport for London carries out “essential maintenance” around the Shirley Hills Road crossing between Coombe Lane and Gravel Hill tram stops.

End of the line: New Addington will have no tram services for two weeks, beginning on April 5

Services will recommence on Saturday April 19.

No trams will run between Sandilands and New Addington tram stops during the track maintenance and repair works, “with engineering teams working around the clock during the closure to minimise disruption as much as possible”, TfL says.

“Trams will operate as usual between Wimbledon and Beckenham Junction and Elmers End tram stops.”

A tram replacement bus service will operate during the works, serving tram stops between New Addington and East Croydon. But due to the closure of Coombe Lane and Gravel Hill to facilitate the works, there will be no stop at Lloyd Park tram stop.

TfL said in an update today: “While this section of the network is closed to trams for these works, additional essential maintenance work has been scheduled on the New Addington branch.

“This includes resurfacing several sections of the carriageway, track maintenance through the Sandilands tunnel, at King Henry’s Drive roundabout and the vehicle crossing into Lloyd Park tram stop. There will also be highway repair, vegetation maintenance and platform refurbishment work at various locations on the branch.

“Taking the opportunity to complete this work as part of this closure minimises the need for future closures, reducing disruption for customers.”

Navid Golshan, TfL’s general manager for London Trams, said: “This planned maintenance is vital to ensure we can continue to offer customers a safe and reliable service across the network. I would like to thank customers for their patience while this takes place and would ask anyone travelling to plan ahead, allowing plenty of time for any journey.”

The Hopper fare continues to be available for adult pay-as-you-go customers, giving unlimited journeys on buses and trams for £1.75 when made within one hour of touching in. This means customers should pay no more than normal to complete their journey during these works.

“Information regarding these temporary changes and travel advice will be displayed at tram stops and customers are encouraged to plan ahead and consider alternative travel options.”

TfL’s Journey Planner and the TfL Go app are useful tools for finding alternative routes on public transport and updates on services.

  1. Lee Mayers says:

New Addington snd most of the southern parts of Croydon borough have terrible transport links. I know people who have ruled out parts of Croydon because public transport options are so bad. Croydon can be a weird place even compared to Bromley who have train stations unlike large parts of Croydon.

How are we supposed to get to Lloyd Park if even the bus isn’t going there?
