Wildlife haven: Hutchinsons Bank, near New Addington, managed by the London Wildlife Trust, is reclaimed chalk grassland that has been a nature reserve for 40 years
The London Wildlife Trust, which manages many of the areas of downland and open space around Croydon and across the capital, is changing the way people can help, with a new volunteer management system coming into use from April 14.
The London Wildlife Trust champions nature’s recovery in the capital. “We engage, inspire and enable people to connect with nature and are resolute in our ambition to reverse the declines in nature,” they say.
“Established in 1981, the Trust manages 36 free-to-access nature reserves across London and are firmly embedded in the city’s local communities.”
The LWT reserves in and around Croydon include Hutchinson’s Bank, near New Addington, Chapel Bank and Saltbox Hill.
The new website-based management system, for experienced and new volunteers alike, will “make it easier to find volunteering opportunities and manage your data”, the Trust says.
Existing mailing lists, used by the London Wildlife Trust’s local organisers to update their band of supporters, will be closed.
“If you’d like to continue receiving email updates from us about our nature recovery work, campaigning, fundraising, and events, please sign up for our mailing list. We’ll also send you useful information on how to make the most of nature and wildlife in London.”
