Mozart Players seek new CEO as Le Brocq leaves for Rutland

The London Mozart Players, the classical orchestra notionally based at Croydon’s Fairfield Halls, is seeking a new chief executive.

Final movement: Flynn Le Brocq is leaving his job at the London Mozart Players in August

The orchestra has announced that Flynn Le Brocq, who has been CEO since 2021, is to leave in August, having accepted a new job as director of admissions at the large private boarding school, Uppingham in Rutland.

“It has been an absolute privilege to lead this wonderful orchestra,” Le Brocq said in a statement issued on his behalf this morning.

“LMP’s culture is truly special and that is down to the incredible versatility and creativity of both our players and management team.

“I’m immensely proud of the collaborations and the artistic partnerships we’ve built, and I feel confident about the future of this extraordinary organisation. While I may be stepping away from my role as CEO, I’ll still keep in touch with LMP from the sidelines.”

Le Brocq took over at the LMP little more than four years ago following the retirement of our executive director, Julia Desbruslais. He had worked previously as general manager of the Southwell Music Festival and the Oxford Bach Soloists, and as the company manager at Nevill Holt Opera.

Today, Sir Robert Lechler, the chair of LMP’s board of directors, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the significant impact Flynn has had during his time with LMP. His leadership has been instrumental in securing the orchestra’s financial future, streamlining its governance, and pushing us to reach ambitious goals.

“Thanks to his dedication and tireless work, LMP is well positioned for the future. While we are sad to see him leave, we are excited for what lies ahead for him and have no doubt he will excel in his next role.”

Jonathan Bloxham, the LMP’s artistic advisor, described Le Brocq as having “great vision, passion and agility”.

One of Le Brocq’s final acts as chief executive has been to sign the Companies House documents to have its limited company “struck off”, as it transfers its business activities entirely to a charitable trust. The London Mozart Players Orchestra Ltd is expected to be dissolved by the end of July.

The London Mozart Players celebrated its 75th anniversary last year.

The chamber orchestra continues to describe itself as Croydon’s “resident orchestra”, and while it received significant grants for performances during the 2023 Borough of Culture, and (according to its own accounts lodged with the Charity Commission) a £40,000 grant from the council in 2024, on its website there are no scheduled performances at the Fairfield Halls for the rest of 2025. The LMP’s only Croydon performance is a genteel summer lunch at Croham Hurst Golf Club next month.

The London Mozart Players say that they are activity recruiting for a new chief executive.
