Bean there, done that: south London-based Rise coffee is up for an award
Wake up and smell the coffee!
A business partnership originally from South Norwood has been named among the finalists for this year’s Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
Rise Coffee Box is a subscription service delivering what the owners describe as “ethically sourced, speciality coffee from independent roasters”.
Named “Best Value Coffee Subscription” by Good Food and “Best Multi Brand Coffee Subscription” by The Guardian, Rise has been on the…err… well rise pretty quickly with their post-lockdown business, where 1% of all revenues is given back to coffee farmers.
Ben Charalambous and Alice Wainwright founded Rise in south London in 2020, and have seen their business grow to the point where it is shortlisted in the Family Business of the Year category at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards – “The Grammys of Entrepreneurship” (aren’t these things always dubbed “The Oscars…” of this that and the other?).
On the rise: 1% of all profits from the business go to impoverished third-world coffee-growers
This year’s shortlist includes more than 800 entrepreneurs from every part of the country, “all recognised for their innovation, impact and resilience”, the organisers say.
Rise are in good company with some top companies. Past winners of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards include the founders of BrewDog, Grenade, ClearScore, Zilch and Unbiased.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be named a finalist for Best Family Business,” Charalambous said.
“This recognition is a true testament to the passion and hard work we’ve poured into building our business, often with a baby on one hip and coffee in the other hand!” said Wainwright.
Winners will be announced at an awards do in central London to be staged in November.
