The busy South End main road in South Croydon was closed in both directions for more than two hours late yesterday afternoon, as emergency services rushed to the scene of a collision, reportedly involving a van and a pedestrian, close to the Swan and Sugarloaf by the junction with Selsdon Road.

The air ambulance attended the crash scene, as did the London Fire Brigade.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told Inside Croydon: “We were called at 4.07pm yesterday to reports of a road traffic collision on South End, Croydon.

“We sent multiple resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an Advanced Paramedic, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance.

“Our crews treated a person at the scene, before taking them to a London major trauma centre.”

Cordoned off: at least 10 bus routes were placed on diversion as police closed the busy main road between Warham Road and Aberdeen Road in both directions. Pic: David Nathan

Police cordoned off the main road between Warham Road and Aberdeen Road.

According to the Met, while they questioned the driver of the van, no arrests were made.

At least 10 bus routes – including some based at South Croydon garage – were either diverted or had their routes curtailed.

There has been no further updates on the condition of the injured person.
