Flood prevention works to cause traffic diversions in Kenley

After years of complaints from residents, and previous, piecemeal attempts to fix the issue, flood alleviation works are to take place on Park Road, Kenley, between Bakers Close and Hayes Lane, due to start on Monday October 20.

Flood alert: a short stretch of road near Kenley Station is to be closed to traffic for more than two weeks

The works will see a section of road near Kenley Station closed for a little more than two weeks, with Croydon Council saying that the expected finishing date is Wednesday November 5.

Buses 434 and 439 to and from Purley are expected to be diverted during the conduct of the works.

The works will include the replacement and renewal of existing gully pots, as well as the installing of new gullys and manhole covers. Conways, the council’s roads contractors, will clean and jet the existing drainage infrastructure, and conduct a camera survey, as well as , upgrading outfall pipes.

There will also be work to adjust kerbs, “footway reprofiling” and carriageway resurfacing and repainting.

During the works, Park Road between Oaks Way and Hayes Lane will be closed to vehicles. Access will be maintained for pedestrians, and arrangements put in place for emergency services and the bin collection vehicles.

According to an announcement issued by the ward councillors, “It is inevitable that disruptions will occur”.

They said: “Residents who would normally park their vehicles on this section of Park Road are required to make alternative parking arrangements while residents who may be expecting delivery of large items during the road closure are expected to reschedule the delivery with the supplier.”

And they add: “Conway will do all that is feasible to keep the disruptions down to a minimum, the cooperation of residents is required to ensure that the essential road works are completed safely and as quickly as possible.”

Drivers and residents in Kenley have been told to check the road signs regularly for updates.

Roadworks (in Kenley) due to end on 5th of November? Does the budget for the project include some fireworks on the end date to celebrate the completion of the project (even though Guy Fawkes himself won’t be working on this job) ?

    • This is a monumental eff up – the road outsaide the station was dug up for weeks recently for significant ‘flood alleviation’ works. So, either they were inadequate or ballsed-up. Mind you, Kenley got a wonky bench out of it. I demand a refund on my Council Tax! We must find the guilty man! Heads must roll.
