There’s to be a little drop of Bavaria in a corner of south London this weekend, when independent craft brewers Anspach and Hobday stage their Oktoberfest beer festival at their Croydon brewery.

Prost!: Oktoberfest comes to south London this weekend
The event will feature three specially brewed German-style lagers poured fresh from the tank, alongside the brewery’s acclaimed London Black – Britain’s best beer of 2025.
Taking place on Saturday, September 20, from 11am until 7pm at Anspach and Hobday’s Croydon Brewery – Unit 11 Valley Point Industrial Estate, Beddington Farm Road, Croydon, CR0 4WP – a short walk from the Ampere Way tram stop.
“Guests are encouraged to don Lederhosen and embrace the festivities,” say the brewers, as they create an authentic Oktoberfest atmosphere complete with accordion music, traditional decorations and hearty German food from BavarianBoy including Bratwurst, Currywurst, Leberkäse, Käsespätzle and fresh Brezels.
“The event promises Gemütlichkeit – that warm sense of good beer and cheer – with a focus on the brewery’s commitment to high-quality lagers, community and enjoyment.”
The star lineup includes:
- Ansbacher Festbier (5.8% ABV): A celebratory lager inspired by the robust yet drinkable Festbiers of Munich’s Oktoberfest. Gloriously golden, it’s clean, crisp, and refreshing, with noble hop aromas, subtle malt sweetness, and a thirst-quenching bitterness.
- The Rauchbier (5.5% ABV): A smoked dark lager homage to the great beers of Bamberg, brewed with unique beechwood-smoked barley. It pours deep mahogany with an off-white head, offering aromas of sweet beechwood smoke and flavours of toasted malt and sweet-cured bacon.
- Ansbacher (5% ABV): A modern premium lager and a nod to Bavaria’s Helles tradition, brewed year-round and in abundance for the season. Bright gold in colour, it delivers delicate hops, subtle sweetness and a snappy bitter finish.

Visitors are encouraged to wear Lederhosen: tickets are £5 for A&H’s Oktoberfest, and include your first beer
“This Oktoberfest is our way of celebrating lager at its finest,” said Paul Anspach, co-founder of Anspach and Hobday. “With London Black taking home the top honour this year, we’re thrilled to share it alongside our seasonal specials in a setting that captures the joy of beer festivals.”
Tickets for the event cost £5, and include entry and the first beer free.
