About half of the Croydon tram network will be closed for “essential track renewal works” for more than a week, starting on October 25.
Transport for London announced this morning that the western section of the network, from Therapia Lane to Wimbledon, will have no service for nine days, from Saturday October 25 until Sunday November 2.
A replacement bus service will be provided.
The track works, TfL says, “are designed to make journeys more reliable and reduce the risk of future service disruption”.
They say: “These works have been scheduled during the school half-term to help minimise the impact, as fewer people typically travel at this time.”
Passengers can use replacement bus services running every 10 to 15 minutes between Wimbledon and Waddon Marsh tram stops. Dundonald Road and Merton Road tram stops won’t be served, “but customers can use nearby local bus services within walking distance”.
Trams will continue to run as normal between Therapia Lane and Beckenham Junction or Elmers End, and between New Addington and West Croydon.
Mark Davis, TfL’s general manager for London Trams, said: “We understand that any disruption to travel can be frustrating, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.
“These essential track renewal works are vital to maintaining a safe and reliable tram network for the future. We’ve timed the works to coincide with the school half-term to reduce the impact, and we’re providing clear travel advice and alternative options to help you plan ahead.”
