Just in time for Halloween (well, Halloween 2026 if post-production goes smoothly), a chilling supernatural horror is about to be filmed in and around Croydon.

Supernatural: the new film follows a short, Homonym, which was made earlier this year
Starring actress Lucy Russell, Sticks and Stones is director Lily Howkins’s debut feature, and the first feature film from Croydon-based Disauthority Originals.
Russell, known for her work including Wolf Hall (BBC), Dune: Prophecy (HBO) and The Day of The Jackal (Sky), joins Freya Hannan-Mills, Anna Burnett (Darkest Hour, The Falling), Tristan Sturrock (Doc Martin, Poldark) and Louis Martin (The Sandman, Andor).
Disauthority Originals describes itself as “the in-house creative production arm of the post-production studio known for its obsessive approach to visual storytelling”.
Filming of Sticks and Stones is scheduled to take place in and around Croydon this November and December.

The feature-length Sticks and Stones follows a “proof-of-concept” short produced earlier this year, called Homonym, also written and directed by Howkins, whose previous work in television has included Doctors and Eastenders.
Set in late-1990s rural Britain, the horror follows a teenager accused of murder.
Trapped in a remote police station during a violent storm, an ambitious policewoman must determine whether there is evidence for conviction or if there is a vengeful supernatural force at play.
“The film examines how institutions respond to stories that defy explanation and the devastating consequences,” the producers say.

“This is the perfect debut for Disauthorty Originals, artist-led, ambitious, and exactly the kind of powerful genre-driven story we love,” said Marcus Hundsnes, Disauthority’s managing director.
“Led by visionary women such as Maria Shevtsova, our head of originals, and director, Lily, this film embodies the purpose of Disauthority Originals, to champion bold, unique voices.
“We’re redefining what independent filmmaking looks like, merging the obsession of post with the energy of production.”
Shevtsova and Hundsnes are co-producing Sticks and Stones.
Disauthority, which works out of offices on Croydon High Street, is seeking to establish itself as an independent studio. “We champion original voices in filmmaking and showcase visual excellence with every project,” they say.
