Police appeal for witnesses after stabbing at Warlingham Green

Surrey Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following a stabbing near Warlingham Green last night.

A 22-year-old man from Croydon is in custody following the incident, “on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife/bladed article in a public place, and possession of a controlled Class B drug”, the police said.

The police were called out at 9.40pm, “to reports of an altercation between a group of people on Limpsfield Road”, according to an official statement issued this morning.

Officers attended with support from the dog unit and located the victim who had been stabbed. He was treated in hospital for what are described as “non-life threatening injuries”, and has been discharged.

Lyndsey Whatley, the Borough Commander for Tandridge, said: “We understand that this would have been extremely distressing for anyone who witnessed the incident. We are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident, and we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.

“I would like to thank the members of the public who called us, we have already received a number of pieces of footage and would ask if anyone knows anything about what happened or has any footage that may assist with our investigation, that they contact us.”

A forensic search is being undertaken, and police said that they expected the area to remain cordoned off “for a few hours”.

“There will be a continued police presence in the area today while officers carry out their enquiries. Please speak to officers if you have any concerns.”

1 Response to Police appeal for witnesses after stabbing at Warlingham Green

  1. Jim Bush says:

Longer-term Croydon residents may remember the double murder in the car park of the (former) Good Companions pub in Hamsey Green (just in LB of Croydon), which was the end of an argument which had begun in The White Lion pub in Warlingham (out in Tandridge, Surrey). The two killers were jailed for life in 2002.

This incident was in Surrey but involving someone from Croydon.
