Eagles fans asked to choose design for aircraft’s club colours

Design No1: how SunExpress might have one of their Boeing passenger jets painted

Eagles fans can choose how a commercial passenger jet will look in the club’s colours.

SunExpress are “the exclusive airline partner of Crystal Palace”, and they are adding a special Palace-themed aircraft to its fleet. Now they want the club’s supporters to vote on the design, “celebrating the club’s identity and rich heritage”.

It might not bring back Marc Guehi, or resolve the impasse with the FA Cup-winning manager, but it might pass a couple of idle moments ahead of Sunday’s next game at Selhurst.

Fans can choose from two designs.

Design 1 – “The Eagle”

“The first design celebrates Crystal Palace’s strong south London heritage. Featuring the club’s iconic Eagle and ‘South London and Proud’ tagline, it reflects the club’s deep local roots, the diversity and strength of its community, and the generations of both fans and players who are synonymous with the area.” Well, that’s what SunExpress put out there, anyway.

Design No2: with the 1861 reference on the aircraft’s tail fin

Design 2 – “The Sash”

“The second design draws inspiration from the club’s iconic red and blue sash, famously worn during the 1976-1977 season. Under the management of Terry Venables, Crystal Palace achieved promotion from the third tier, making the sash one of the most recognisable and historic elements of the club’s visual identity.”

Interesting, the club, which was formed in 1905, makes no mention of the 1861 date emblazoned across the aircraft’s tail fin in this design.

Palace fans have until February 1 to vote for their favourite design via this webpage.

The design that gets the most votes will be used on one of SunExpress’s Boeing 737-8s. The aircraft will then operate across SunExpress’ routes to the Turkish Riviera and Anatolia, flying out of Stansted, Luton and Gatwick.

Palace’s chief commercial officer, Barry Webber, called the design ballot “a fantastic opportunity to showcase our partnership with SunExpress and put our supporters right at the centre of it”.

Webber said: “Giving our fans the power to help shape how the club is represented around the world is something we are genuinely excited about, and we look forward to seeing the winning livery take to the skies.”
