Croydon College’s esports legends are top of the league again

Final countdown: Croydon College’s esports team won the national title in 2025 and has qualified for the 2026 final later this month

Croydon College is celebrating a major achievement as its elite esports team has made the national finals of the British students League of Legends tournament.

Croydon College’s team has twice won the national title, including last year, so they go into the 2026 final as defending champions.

This year, they have won the southern title after beating St Dunstan’s College 2-0 in the regional final.

The national final will be held at the University of Staffordshire in Stoke on June 23 and 24.

The college’s team, Croydon Prime, will Belfast Met Esports, the northern champions.

Comprised of students studying esports at Level 4 and Level 5, Croydon Prime’s League of Legends squad combines academic excellence with high-performance competitive gaming.

The team is led by Shamil “Reyn” Mohamed, lecturer and head coach, who has guided the squad through an impressive season. “I’m incredibly proud of what this team has achieved,” he said.

“Their dedication, discipline and teamwork have been outstanding throughout the season. Reaching the national finals is a testament to their hard work and the strength of esports education at Croydon College.”

League of Legends is one of the world’s most popular esports titles. It is a 5v5 team-based strategy game that requires strong communication, technical precision and strategic thinking.

“Croydon College continues to be at the forefront of esports education, providing students with the skills, experience and competitive opportunities needed to succeed in a rapidly growing global industry,” according to a statement issued by the college.
