A delivery rider is being treated in hospital after being hit by a speeding car in what eyewitnesses described as a hit-and-run crash on a busy South Croydon road during Thursday night’s rush hour.
The main Brighton Road through South Croydon was closed by police for more than an hour, as emergency services dealt with the consequences of a reckless speeding driver.
The collision between a car and a delivery rider on a bicycle occurred close to Whitgift School. It happened after a car chase down Brighton Road, where the driver took the car up on to the kerb and drove back on the road to avoid the rush hour traffic.

When the car turned on to Haling Park Road, it crashed into a delivery rider on a bicycle.
An eyewitness described the bike as “destroyed” in the crash. “The driver took off after the collision.”
The vehicle is described as a dark grey modern SUV-type, with tinted windows.
The victim of the crash was treated at the scene, as police cordoned off Brighton Road.
A London Ambulance spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.03pm yesterday to reports of a road traffic collision on Haling Park Road.
“We sent resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.
“We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a local hospital.”
The LAS declined to describe the seriousness of the delivery rider’s injuries.

You got to that before me but yes taking away and already established cycle protection on a fake consultation and the views of angry motorists was an act of vandalism that endangers lives and does nothing to reduce congestion or encourage healthy living.
