Croydon’s schools, state and private sector, were claiming “best ever” outcomes on A Level results day.

In the frame: Whitgift was celebrating some outstanding A Level and Bacc results today
At Whitgift School, the £30,000 per year independent in South Croydon, 1-in-4 of their results were at the highest, A* grade, while close to 60% of all grades were A/A* double the national averaage.
Nearly 40% of Whitgift pupils achieved at least one A* grade and 22% got at least two A* grades.
Earlier in the year, Whitgift’s International Baccalaureate pupils also celebrated exceptional success, achieving an average of 40.4 points, compared with a global average of around 30. At Whitgift, 12% of their Bacc boys attained the maximum score of 45 points.
“These achievements reflect the hard work, determination and talent of a cohort of young men who have embraced not only academic study but every aspect of Whitgift life,” the school’s headmaster, Toby Seth, said.
“We are proud to provide exceptional opportunities for our pupils and equally delighted to see them make the most of all that the School has to offer.”

Wonderwall: pupils at Shirley Park ‘worked incredibly hard’ to secure their results
At Oasis Shirley Park, part of one of the country’s largest multi-academy trusts, 52% of their A-Level entries were awarded A* to B, while 80% achieved A* to C grades and 99% of entries secured a pass.
Andy Booth, the executive principal, said: “We are delighted with this year’s results and the many success stories we have seen today. Our students have worked incredibly hard and their achievements are a testament to their dedication, perseverance and ambition.”
Among the university courses the Shirley Park Sixth-formers are going on to study are medicine, engineering, politics and history. “These outcomes reflect both the determination of our students and the unwavering commitment of our staff,” Booth said.
Coulsdon Sixth Form College said it is “celebrating its strongest results to date”, across not only A Levels but also vocational results, though were unable to provide any data to support their statement.
At Croydon High School, the independent girls’ school in Selsdon, their Class of 2026 delivered the school’s best results, with 62% of all grades awarded at A*/A – msrginally better than the results at Whitgift.

Croydon High’s high achievers: four of the young women gaining exceptional results today are known as ‘Crystal Ivy’ – pupils who have been at the school since nursery or reception
“The school is enormously proud that nearly one-quarter of this year’s grades are at this highly aspirational level of A*,” the school announced once all the grades had been received this morning.
Those figures showed 92% of results were at A*-B grades, an 8% improvement on even last years’ impressive results. All Croydon High pupils in eight subjects recorded straight A*/As.
“I am exceptionally proud of each and every member of the Class of 2026,” said Annabel Davies, the school’s head.
“They exemplify everything that we believe in here at Croydon High. In a learning environment designed specifically for girls, they have taken every opportunity presented to them. They have worked so hard, individually, but also alongside their teachers whose expertise in bringing out the very best in girls must be acknowledged today.”
