A stretch of Purley Downs Road, which runs between South Croydon up the hill to Sanderstead, is to be closed for eight weeks for “essential” gas supply works, starting from this Monday, September 7.
The road will be closed from the mini roundabout at the junction of Riddlesdown Road, up to the railway bridge by Beech Avenue.
The closures are expected to last until Friday October 16.
Diversions for bus route 359 have already begun, in both directions, via Godstone Road, Downs Court Road, Mitchley Avenue and Rectory Park.
Buses towards Addington Village are not serving stops from Christchurch Road and Purley Hospital (stop E) to Sanderstead Hill, while buses towards Purley are not serving stops from Sanderstead Hill to Montpellier Road (L).
“Please allow extra time for your journey,” Transport for London advises, somewhat obviously.
Gas infrastructure firm SGN is carrying out the works. SGN’s works hotline is 0800 912 1700.
