Another week, another notice of more tram closures.

End of the line: New Addington’s tram service will be closed this weekend, as well as for another fortnight into November
The latest disruption was confirmed by Transport for London this morning: no service on the branch between Sandilands and New Addington this coming weekend, October 17 to 18.
“This is so essential engineering works can be carried out to improve the tramway.
“We are sorry for the disruption this may cause.”
This latest closure will also impact residents on Gravel Hill and Addington Village, as well as weekend visitors to Lloyd Park, the Addington Hills and nature reserves such as Hutchinson’s Bank.
There will be no tram replacement buses for this weekend closure.
Inside Croydon was first to report the upcoming closure for two weeks of half the tram network, from Arena to Beckenham Junction and Elmers End, and to New Addington. These track replacement works are due to start on Saturday October 24 and last for a fortnight, through to Friday November 6.
Local MP Natasha Irons has written to TfL’s tram network manager to complain about the frequent disruptions to the service.
“I recognise the need to maintain our transport infrastructure safely. But residents, understandably, are already frustrated by the frequency and scale of disruption,” Irons, the Labour MP for Croydon East, said in her letter last week.
The further closures this weekend have been announced since Irons’ sent her letter.
TfL’s notice issued today says that during the Sandilands to New Addington closure on October 17-18, “trams will continue to run between Wimbledon and Beckenham Junction/ Elmers End”. All other services through East Croydon and the town centre will be unaffected.
“Normal service is expected to resume at the start of service on Monday October 19,” TfL says.
“Please check before you travel, allow more time for your journey and where possible consider using local buses, walking, or cycling.” TfL’s journey planner can be found by clicking here.
