Fire leaves Addington chippie battered but unbowed

McDermott

Forestdale’s much-loved chippie, McDermott’s, has been forced to close after a serious machinery fire last night.

Sean McDermott, one of the owners of the fish and chip take-away and restaurant, has vowed that the business will bounce back quickly.

He plans to re-open the takeaway by Thursday and the 100-seat restaurant by the following week.

McDermott was full of praise for the fire service and says that he hopes to run a do for the fire officers after re-opening.

It appears that early detection of the midnight fire and quick response by the fire brigade stopped what could have been the complete destruction of the landmark eatery.
